What is a Discipleship Training School (DTS)? Print E-mail
Wednesday, 30 January 2008 18:58
DTS study the WordThe Discipleship Training School is a five or six month, hands-on Christian training program with a lecture phase followed by an outreach phase. The dts provides you with an opportunity to take six months away from the normal pressures and routine of life so you have to time to focus entirely on Jesus. The program teaches you how to build an intimate relationship with God, develop personal character, and lead a lifestyle of expressing God's love to others.

The DTS is also a great place to make new friends from around the world as you live and learn together in community. We emphasize global awareness while living in a rich, multi-cultural community so we can all learn from one another. This cross-cultural environment creates a basis for an intimate and passionate relationship with God so you can boldly go and "make disciples of all nations" (Matthew 28:19). DTS is only the beginning. Once trained, you qualify to apply for many more opportunities with ywam including staff positions and other ywam training programs.

Pray about it. Maybe six months with us is part of God’s exciting plan for your life!

Example of course content

classroomLearning about the character and nature of God
Through reading the scriptures, prayer, worship, and devotional time, we want you to understand all aspects of God such as His holiness, faithfulness, mercy, and grace.

Learning how to hear the voice of God

Yes, God still speaks! We desire for you to hear God and be able to follow when He says ‘Go’.

Understand the purpose of God’s redemption through the cross

God has a powerful plan for your life and it has already been set in motion through his sacrifice on the cross. We want you to understand the full meaning of the cross and redemption so you can start to realize just how much God cares for all His children.

Unleashing the power of the Word

Our goal is to help you learn how to read the Scriptures in a new way that not only challenges you but also refreshes and changes you.

Developing Christ-like behavior and a powerful devotional life

There is nothing more powerful than living a life that reflects Christ. We will encourage you and help you develop a devotional life where you can discover Christ and how to be His disciple.

Learning how to make and keep healthy relationships

We love relationships here at ywam. We want you to learn how to build solid friendships that are based on the firm foundation of God’s word. There’s nothing stronger than a world-wide community of friends knit together with the truth of God’s love.

Discovering God’s purpose for your life

Yes, your life has purpose! Once at YWAM, we will help you discover your unique gifts that the Lord has blessed you with so you can effectively fulfill His calling for your life.

Evangelism and missions

A primary goal at YWAM is to spread the gospel so we can reap a great harvest of souls for God.

Biblical worldview and cross-cultural ministry

We strive for our students to have a broad and biblical worldview and to be aware of all the many cultures that God created.

Spiritual warfare & intercession

We believe that God has called us to pray for people and regions that are lost or in need. We teach students about intercession so they can participate in deep prayer to help bring change to a world in need.

Lecture phase

The 12 week lecture phase will include various types of learning opportunities such as formal lecture times, small group discussions, assignments, worship & intercession, living together in community, helping practically around the base (a.k.a. "work duties"), social events, and more. Speakers are brought in each week to encourage students, share their testimony, and challenge the students to go deeper with God.

Outreach phase

Mercy Ministry helping hands to the poorThe outreach phase is the time to apply the things you've learned in class in practical ways. Outreach teams, which will be formed during the lecture weeks, will be sent out into the nations to share the gospel.

Some of these areas you can see at the upcoming DTS.

This is a great time to learn how to share your faith in a variety of ways as you make God known in the nations through evangelism and community development.
